News & Information
Women's rugby is a growing sport in Hong Kong, with local players making up over 60% of player numbers. In 2003/2004 the domestic 15-a-side league will feature at least 5 teams and approximately 10 teams for our seven-a-side competition. Hong Kong is also home to the International Women's Sevens competition, held annually, preceeding the Cathay Pacific / Credit Suisse First Boston Hong Kong Sevens.

Please find below the topics discussed at the first committee meeting of the 2003/04 Hong Kong Women's Rugby Committee meeting held on 25th July.

Colleen O'Sullivan is working with the Union on confirming the fixtures for the coming season. The first event on the calendar will be the Valley 15's to be held on 14th September. The women's 15s league will most likely start on 28th September.

As the new Player Liaison Officer, Doris Chow is the first point of contact for players who have a suggestion or problem regarding the women's domestic game. Doris will be keeping records of all comments and suggestions she gets so that all player's concerns can be addressed by the committee. If players have questions about national squads, they should call the National Rep, Kirsty Graham. Doris is not the person to call regarding national inquires as it is important her full time job (which often involves national club issues for the Union) and her volunteer commitments for the committee do not clash.

The date of the tour for the national 15s squad to the Gulf will be confirmed at the Director's meeting on August 4th. As soon as the dates are confirmed the committee let all players and club reps know. It will be either late October or early Nov. Manager's for all men's and women's teams will be decided at the Directors meeting on August 4th. Kirsty will begin to look for suitable 7s competitions for a 7s team to attend as a warm up to the HK event.

To date the committee have had only one player contact us formally regarding eligibility issues. The player has the committee's full support and Kirsty will write to the Union Directors on her behalf.

The beginner's course started on Wednesday 30th July and was well attended and well received. Current players are encouraged to send any novice players to the next training session on Wednesday August 6th at the IRC at 7pm.

Toni Barker has not yet received all the clubs contact lists so news updates are currently only being set to Club Reps. Club Reps are encouraged to send a full list of e-mail addresses to Toni so that she can save them the job of redistributing e-mails.

There has been an enquiry from Candy regarding a non-attendance fine for Club Rep meetings. The committee will confirm with Candy that a Club Rep or a substitute only has to turn up to 4 meetings in an entire season so there really shouldn't be a problem.
