What is Tertiary Rugby?
Tertiary rugby was initiated in 1998. It started with a small group of tertiary schools and enthusiastic students. Since then, Tertiary Tag Rugby has grown from strength to strength. In each academic year, three competitive tournaments are always organised. Each event contributes to the steady growth of the game within Hong Kong Institutes.
With the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union recognising the enthusiasm and the potentials among students, the game has grown even further under the support of HKRFU. The annual three tournaments, which host ten different institutes, bring a total of nineteen teams of men and women to each event.
Why Tag Rugby?
Tag Rugby is played within the limited facilities of Tertiary Institutes due to the lack of playing facilities and catering a wide verity of playing standards among students in Hong Kong. The game of Tag allows girls and boys with varying abilities to enjoy the sport together.
What's Tag all about?
Tag Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. It has evolved from Touch Rugby while keeping all of the Touch games attribution. Each player wears a belt that has two 'Velcro' tags attached to it. The defenders have to pull one of the 'Velcro' tags from the attacking player's belt (simulating a tackle situation) that is carrying the ball, to force the player to pass the ball. Each team has 6 'tags' in which to score a try. |
